Description
Huey P. Long for President. Sign (6" X 4" reproduction)Huey Long was planning to run for president in the 1936 election against Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He had risen to national prominence with his “Share Our Wealth” program, which helped Louisiana as the Great Depression worsened. Meanwhile, FDR adopted some of Huey’s ideas
as part of his Second New Deal. For example, the Social new Security system reflected Huey’s proposal for old-age pensions, the Works Progress Administration was similar to the public works programs begun by Long in Louisiana. Unfortunately Long was assassinated in 1935 before the election.
This is a reproduction of an old hand-painted campaign sign along with several small images of Huey Long.
